News from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally



Sturgis Rally Charities Awards Over $76,000

Thursday evening, Sturgis Rally Charities made its yearly donations to organizations of the Sturgis Area. For the very first time, all organizations that put in an application received at least a portion of their request.  


Organizations receiving funds included: $10,000 to Crisis Intervention Shelter Services, $6,000 to Sturgis Kiwanis Food Pantry, $5,720 to Northern Hills CASA, $5,000 to Meade School District School Nurses, $5,000 to Sturgis Alliance for Churches, $5,000 to Connect 842nd Home, $3,000 to Greater Sturgis Area Transportation, $3,000 to Realtors for Kids, $3,000 to Sturgis Area Child Protection Team, $2,500 to the  Northern Hills Drug Court, $2,500 to Rural Meade Ambulance, $2,000 to Sturgis Jaycees, $2,000 to Sturgis Center for the Arts, $1,500 to Meade County Senior Citizens Center, $1,500 to Sturgis Elementary Music/PE Department, $1,500 to Hellfighter Outreach Ministries, $1,500 to BHSU RSVP Program, $1,100 to Junior Achievement of the Northern Hills, $1,000 to Meade County Housing, $1,000 to PCT Program BH Care System, $1,000 to Sturgis Area United Way, $1,000 to Sturgis Elementary School Reading Challenge, $1,000 to Veterans Club, $1,00 to Western Resources for dis-ABLED Independence, $1,000 to Whitewood PTO, $1,000 to Sturgis High School Post Prom, $1,000 to Sturgis Community Preschool, $500 to Sturgis Public Library Children’s Program, $500 to Sturgis Public Library Teen Services, $500 to Meade 46-1, $500 to Sturgis Area Arts Council, $500 to Sturgis high School Softball Association, and $300 to Meade County Housing.

 

Organizers recognized the late Tom Monahan who was responsible for creating the “Official” Sturgis Motorcycle Rally logo which he then donated to help promote the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and support community projects. Kathy Hersrud, president of the foundations stated, “This was Tom’s dream. He created the logo to have funds to give back to the citizens of Sturgis. It is unfortunate that he is not here tonight.”
