Sturgis gets addition to bike path
September 17, 2010
The City of Sturgis has been building a new addition to its bike path and Thursday, ribbon cutting ceremonies were held for a new section of that pathway.
On hand for the ribbon cutting were children from several Sturgis elementary schools. Kids will benefit most from the new bike path addition. Sturgis Mayor Maury LaRue says it will provide a safe way for kids to get to and from school.

Maury LaRue says, "Oh! Very important. As our town starts to grow we noticed that quite a few of our families were on the other side of the Interstate. So, no reason why a kid can't walk to school. This was a key thing. This was going to be a path that would be used summer and winter for the kids to find their way to school."

The new bike path was built at a cost of 221 thousand dollars, part of which was paid for with a grant from the federal government. With the new addition, the City of Sturgis now has eight miles of bike paths.
