Bob Dylan To Play The Chip!!
June 23, 2010

Entire websites are devoted just to the 2,791 artists who have done 5,870 covers of 350 of Bob Dylan’s songs.

No other singer-songwriter has had the influence on modern music Bob Dylan has. He will play the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground on Tuesday, Aug. 10, during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

In a career that started with folk “protest” songs about freedom (“Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Chimes of Freedom,”) and the civil rights movement (“The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll” and “The Times They Are A-Changin’”) to ballads like “All I Really Wanna Do” Dylan’s influence spans four decades and thousands of recordings.

Born to Jewish-Russian immigrants in Duluth, Dylan spent most of his youth in Hibbing, Minnesota. He moved to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and later to New York’s Greenwich Village in the middle 1960s.

After having made a name for himself in the folk music world, Dylan expanded his horizons to include a band with amplified guitars. Hit records followed as did a string of hit covers by other artists, including The Beatles, Jeff Beck, Joan Baez, The Black Crowes, Blood Sweat & Tears, Blue Cheer, Jon Bon Jovi, Gary U.S. Bonds,  David Bowie, and The Box Tops. (And those are just a few whose names start with B.)

“Every Bob Dylan performance is a glimpse at American music history”  said Rod Woodruff. “Now bikers who come to the Buffalo Chip during the 70th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally will be a part of that rich history.

“We try each year to give our campers an experience they will fondly remember for the rest of their lives. In 2010, Bob Dylan will take our stage for the first, and likely only time ever. And, that’s a memory worth pursuing,” Woodruff said.
